At least four persons lost their lives after gunmen attacked a mosque at Kawddi village, Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state yesterday July 26th. The gunmen stormed the mosque at about 8pm when the Muslim faithfuls were observing their night prayers.
Confirming the attack, the spokesperson of the state police command, Muhammad Shehu, said the gunmen invaded the village in large numbers and started shooting sporadically. Shehu said Kwaddi village is situated in a thick forest and surrounded by rocks, and shares boundary with the Niger Republic, a terrain which the police spokesman said made it difficult for security operatives to respond swiftly to any distress call.
The remains of the deceased persons have been deposited in the morgue while security officers have been deployed to the region to forestall fresh attacks.
